Material Girl Style for the masses
Here’s yet another short review of the new H&M collection Designed by Madonna – the following is taken from the online website of the Montreal Gazette.
“Karl, Stella, Viktor, Rolf, Madonna and more Madonna. The latest “name” collection hits H&M, the Swedish retail giant, on March 22 with the Material Girl’s take on fashion. That’s in the wake of a track suit design for Madonna, and a deal in which Madonna and her crew of 150 on the Confessions tour wore H&M offstage.
H&M’s taking-fashion-to-the-masses approach was initiated by Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel, and followed by Stella McCartney and the oddball Dutch duo of Viktor & Rolf, all of which was snapped up voraciously by frenzied fashion followers.
The M by Madonna collection consists of 30 garments and 10 accessories – kimono dresses, stack heel shoes, skinny pants, trench coats, and bags.
“It’s different of course in that Madonna is not a designer,” said Laura Shankland, communications manager for H&M in Canada. “We see this more as a style icon collaboration.”
Naturally, H&M is not resting on its Madonna laurels. Kylie Minogue is the latest inspiration for the chain, which announced last week it will pay tribute to the “sparkling pop princess” with a bohemian beach collection this summer.”
