New Madonna interview on Le Figaro today
Le Figaro spoke to Madonna at the party for her collection for H&M on Tuesday night in London. The exclusive interview has been published on today’s edition of the newspaper – and MadonnaTribe brings you a first look at what the Queen of Style told the leading French daily newspaper about her new collection for H&M.
M by Madonna – the collection the singer designed for Swedish retailer H&M – bring the active woman under the spotlight. Launched as a world premiere in Hong Kong at the inauguration of the new H&M shop last week ago – something that lead fans to sleep for two days in the street before the opening – the new collection will reach the rest of the world on March 22, when it goes on sale on 28 markets simultaneously.
The fashion icon, who keeps collecting hit singles, poses for Versace, buys Guggi jackets by six, and made the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier or Dolce & Gabbana her tour costume designers, successfully manages – get the paradox – to restore with genious the image of the next girl door.
Tuesday evening, in London, the blonde Madonna made her confession about the fashion world to Le Figaro.
After dressing her team and her dances with H&M, it’s time for Madonna to design a collection for real ladies.
Le Figaro: This collection shows an unexpected side of your personality, that of an almost “ordinary” woman.
Madonna: “I wanted to show that women work as hard as men do, but they can also have fun.”
You also worked on the “sexy secretary” theme.
“Yes, that’s also because of what my husband likes, what he would like to see a woman wear. He inspired me a lot.”
Suddenly, more mature women are back at H&M.
“Actually, they also have the right to have more fun with what they wear.”
Did you have an idea of what direction you were going already at the very beginning, when you start thinking of this collection the last Summer?
“What I knew anyway was that there would not include any clothes that I would not wear myself. I also talked with the girls around me. That was the lead direction.”
You created M by Madonna inspired by the “Semtext Girls”, who are they?
“Semtext” is a form of explosive. Actually, it was my producer Mirwais who started calling me like that in the first place. A Semtext girl is a girl filled by energy, who does not take “no” for an answer, and who doesn’t take everything too seriously. I have a dozen of women like that around me in London, Losa Angeles or New York. They do all work for me.”
Have you ever thought about creating your own line of fashion?
“In a certain way, I already do that. I create so many different looks for my shows, I work with designers like Jean Paul Gaultier or Dolce & Gabbana.
I realized that it is a full time job. Think about my friend Stella McCartney, she’s someone who never stops. She has just finished working on a collection and she’s already started with another. I could not deal with such a pressure.”
Well, you are already under a lot of pressure, don’t you?
“Yes, but most differently from fashion designers, I do a lot of different things, a concert, a book, movies, that changes all the time.”
Do you collect some haute couture?
“I only keep the designs that John Galliano, Olivier Theyskens, Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier created exclusively for me. And I hand out the rest.”
Which is the kind of clothes a woman should stay mandatory away from?
“I don’t understand the dresses or the tops where the design blocks your chest as a bar. I would never wear that.”
Which is the piece you would never separate from?
“An H&M tracksuit. I wear it for travelling.”
Do you have any fashion fetish?
“Yes, a pair of knee-lenght boots by Stella McCartney. I worn them out. Actually, she’s supposed to show up in a minute, I have to ask her to make some more pairs for me.”
What are you wearing today?
“The white dress from my collection. I find it very flattering, that’s an important thing for ladieswear, I do really care about it. Just like the model with the butterfly arms or the black and white kimono with the naked back.”
You also wear diamonds and a pochette bag by Dior.
“These diamonds are from Neil Lane and this pochette by Dior could also be considered one of my fetishes.”
Did you daugther Lourdes give you her advice about your collection?
“She’s always in my dressing room and she now she wears my same shoe size – go figure out!”
