No Backlash=No Ray of Light
M-Tribe Team and Community member Cristian aka cristian_nyc is back with a new piece for his “‘Cause I Got Something To Say About It…“.
“The face of you… my substitute for love… my substitute for love…”
“Should I wait for you… my substitute for love… my substitute for love..”
I remember when I first heard this track. I was 20 years old, and was just “coming out”. I was blossoming into my looks, and was beginning to look at the world through very different eyes. Where once I had been told by my family, and most of society around me, that I was to be ashamed of who I was… by the time “Ray of Light” had been released, I was beginning to learn what it was like to not be afraid of being myself.
But, in hindsight, even though I loved this song, I could truly never completely relate to it. I wasn’t asking myself the big questions Madonna was exploring at the time on her album (e.g. Where do I belong in the world? What is my purpose?). Instead, I was simply experiencing a new type of happiness I hadn’t known before. This happiness lay in finally having the courage to say I was gay, and proud of it, and to tell the world to fuck themselves if they didn’t like it.
