Official: Gogol Bordello on stage with Madonna
Yesterday MadonnaTribe had the chance to exclusively break the news about Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz possibly joining Madonna on stage at the Wembley Stadium for Live Earth on Saturday and we revealed details of a Russian flavoured rendition of Madonna’s Isla Bonita with heavy gypsy influences.
Eugene Hutz and Sergey Ryabtsev from the Gypsy Punk band have now confirmed that they have accepted an invitation from Madonna to guest on stage with her during her headline set at Wembley Stadium in London.
“The initiative behind Live Earth, to inspire its global audience to make lasting changes in their lives and spur action by corporations and governments to turn the tide on Global Warming, is supported by Gogol Bordello, and both Eugene and Sergey felt the opportunity to publicly endorse the campaign was one they could not pass up.”
“Eugene Hutz recently worked with Madonna in London as the lead role in her forthcoming directorial debut film “Filth & Wisdom“. She attended the Gogol Bordello gig at London’s Electric Ballroom on May 30th, and has previously been quoted as a fan of the New York immigrant punk collective.”
“At Live Earth they will perform a very special interpretation of the classic Gypsy song (and Gogol Bordello live staple) “Lela Pala Tute“, which is performed in the Romany language.”
