One of the most talented ladies in the world
The finalists of UK tv program Hell’s Kitchen were treated to a civilized afternoon tea with Marco Pierre White, the Chef, in the garden, were he recalls bumping into friend Madonna for the very first time.
“If I was to take a girl out I’d much rather take her for afternoon tea than for dinner or lunch,” Marco mused, buttering a scone. “I think it’s more romantic.”
And as they all tucked into their tea and cake, Adele reminded her Head Chef that he’d promised to tell them all about the time he first met Madonna.
“The first time I met Madonna, I didn’t actually meet her,” Marco began.
“I took my son for a walk around Knightsbridge, and these two girls came running round the corner and almost bumped in to us, with a ton of paparazzi following them.”
“I said to my son, ‘That’s one of the most famous ladies in the world, one of the most talented ladies in the world‘. The next day I get a phone call, and my friend said, ‘Marco would you like to have afternoon tea with me and Madonna?’
“So I go for afternoon tea with Madonna. She was very nice, very charming.
To be sitting in the company of an icon – it’s quite a special thing, and in a strange sort of way I’d grown up with her by listening to her music.
“In those days she was very young,” he added. “She must have been in her early thirties, but seemed so tiny and so petite.”
