Stupid, stupid, stupid…
Here’s the new column from our friend and Community member Cristian aka cristian_nyc, together with a short message from the author himself to our readers…
“My apologies this took so long guys…there’s been some changes in my life which have taken up a bit of my time, but I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did writing it. I promise the next piece will come in a bit more on schedule, thanks!”
As everyone knows on this site’s message board, I adore Madonna—but I certainly don’t defend everything she’s done as an entertainer (my last column on the “American Life” project confirms that). But, well, I had a bit of an irk (no, a big irk), when I saw the following quote: “Everything she did after the Like A Virgin album was irrelevant, because it was a media circus that fueled her after that, not any talent on her part or anything like that”.
Ummm… .what? ! ? Everything post-Like A Virgin irrelevant? Does this person realize how much relevance, iconography, and significance Madonna has created since Like A Virgin? So, all her work in bringing AIDS to the public forefront, all her work in empowering females with their sexuality, all her work in creating some of the best pop songs and most established videos, all her work in making the world talk about what it means to be a woman, a man, gay, straight (I could go on on and on here for pages)—all that work is irrelevant? ! ? All of this is purely a “media circus” 20+ year creation where it holds absolutely no worth or weight whatsoever?
Say what you will about this woman, but the above statement has to be one of the stupidest comments to ever come out of a Madonna detractor’s mouth. Does this person honestly think a 20+ year career can be built on purely a “media circus”? Nope, sorry buddy, it’s not possible, and let me explain why.
