Two Madonna covers celebrating 40 years of BBC Radio 1
In the month of June 2007 Tom Findlay from the Groove Armarda spilled the beans about the duo going to cover Madonna’s “Crazy for You” for a new compilation celebrating 40 years of BBC Radio 1.
More details on the project have now been revealed, explaining that it will consist in a 40-track compilation of covers – one tune from each year of the station’s existence – to be performed by pretty much everybody on the current BBC Radio 1 playlist.
And from the complete tracklisting posted on pitchforkmedia.com we now learn that not one, but two Madonna covers have been picked up for the new release.
Along with the Groove Armada rendition of “Crazy For You” – representing year 1991, when the song was reissued in the UK – that Findlay described as a “quite minimal version, in a stripped back way, with a slight nod to The Cure in the chorus”, the compilation will also include Natasha Bedingfield covering “Ray of Light“, of course for year 1998.
According to Radio 1, the covers are in the process of being recorded, whith no release date set yet and artists still subject to change. Click on the Full Article link below to check out the tentative tracklisting as posted on pitchforkmedia.com.
