Vulgar pop-diva Madonna VS Catholic Madonna
MadonnaTribe friend and contributor from Russia Dimitri has sent in this interesting report about a gallery created by two contemporary artists from Ukraine, Gala Sheblanina and Irina Kolesnik.
Their collages are featured on a Russian magazine called “Moulin Rouge“, a big-size publication.
With this work – called “Vulgar pop-diva Madonna VS Catholic Madonna” – they tried to see what happens when you connect famous drawings and classic masterpieces with photos of a famous singer like Madonna.
Here is the little article where the authors explain their ideas.
“We had an idea to do this project right after Madonna travelled through the half of the world with her Confessions Tour but of course, did not come to the Ukraine.
So we decided to create our own alternative version of the tour. The project is made of two parts: the first one is the actual exhibition of our photo-collages and also a display of erotica accessories. For the second part of the exhibition we have made some flower compositions where we have hidden some dildos, crops, birch, etc.
And for every composition we have written a little messages where you could find out about Madonna’s preferences in this area.
And about placing her photos within the drawings, the idea was really simple: “Vulgar pop-diva Madonna VS Catholic Madonna“. In the process we have noticed that all pictures were too religious.
We did not know if people would like all those collages that we have made, they were supposed to be displayed in some famous restaurants. That’s why we made a little quantity of religious pictures and all the rest was just usual classical art: Raphael, Botticelli and so on…”
Thanks to Dimitri for this report.
