Madonna in Mexico pictures and review by Luis
“Writing about Madonna’s concerts in Mexico is a difficult task. Besides all the information published in the country, the reviews in newspapers, the Spanish words of Madonna during the concerts, or people’s reaction to the shows, for a fan this is a really special and unique experience.
For a fan identified with Madonna for almost twenty years, seeing her live again is such a ritual. The emotions are present, and I think that’s the real reason why since 1989 she is my inspiration and my favorite artist.
Being again with Madonna, along with 50 thousand more persons is something magical, the interaction this woman achieves with her audience is something exceptional and as it happens, there are people who love it and some who hate it.
My Sticky & Sweet experience began this Saturday November 29 at 4:30 PM, when I arrived to the parking lot of Palacio de los Deportes, in front of Foro Sol, when immediately I heard Madonna singing Miles Away.
She was indeed “Miles Away” from me, but I got the chance to listen to her soundcheck performing songs such as You Must Love me, Heartbeat, Into the Groove or Music.
I have to say that I decided remain as spoiler free as possible on this show, so listening to these versions from the other side of the stadium was unbelievable.
Despite I arrived like 5 hours before the concert, this waiting was not really long because I had the chance to took pictures in front of the stage, with some Madonna’s dancers who were with the public in the first rows, and even with some Mexican stars that were sharing seats with me and some other fans.
Even tough most people criticized me for paying almost 500 USD per show, the truth is that every penny paid was worth it, as being in the sixth and eight row in the concerts was the closest I have been to Madonna during her concerts, something really different for me.
At 9:20 on Saturday November 29, the lights went off and the show started. During two hours I enjoyed with hits, new songs, reinventions, remixes, videos, shouts, dancing, claps, sweat, tears… a lot of sensations that a person can not get that easy.
Even tough some of Mexican stars behind me were talking during the show, I enjoyed every part of it, as I was so focused on the songs, the moves, the diva.
Maybe the first big surprise was Into the Groove, with such an spectacular choreography that had Mexican fans on Madonna’s feet.
Devil wouldn’t recognize you was another highlight, even tough I was surprised the audience got romantic with such a painful and dramatic song.
Almost at the end came my favorite moment, I was just surprised, I jumped as crazy, sang, screamed and opened my eyes as never in my life: Like a Prayer for me was the best song on the whole show.
Give it 2 Me ended and Saturday’s show ended, but there was still another one to live, on Sunday.
After doing some activities, I went again to Foro Sol again with the most important person in my life, and such and avid Madonna fan too, and the ritual was almost the same, with Mexican celebrities in front of me, waiting impatiently to dance and sing, get up and do their thing with Madonna’s music.
If I have to confess, I have to accept that I enjoyed Sunday’s concert more than Saturday’s, the experience was completely different, even tough the show was the same. The crowd was different, and luckily I had no distraction.
Tough I am an enemy of being recording or taking pictures during the concerts, I did it this time, and I really enjoyed it, not I have all these material to see it over and over, and share it with all the world.
The best of this second concert was again the movements of the diva… from the new live to Vogue with stylized moves, to the fun of She’s Not Me.
This time I listened You Must Love Me in all its glory, I sang Miles Away along with Madonna, just as she asked us, and I jumped during Music, Into the Groove, Heartbeat and Give it 2 Me.
Once again Like a Prayer was surprising just as the first time, as I saw some other details I did’t see the first time, just a classic in a brand new form.
In the concert, at the part when Madonna takes requests, Saturda’s song was Sorry, but on Sunday the surprise was bigger, as the song I dreamt she performs was the one chosen.
After rejecting to perform Cherish and Hollywood, Madonna agreed to sing Express Yourself, just my favorite song ever from Madonna.
The show ended quicker than a ray of light, Give it 2 Me was for me shorter than the previous day, and before disappearing from stage, she thanked Mexico for this show. The game was over, and the moment to say see you next time to Madonna came.
Having Madonna in my country was something different, I can say if it was better or worse, it was just different to the other four tours I’ve had the privilege to attend, and I must say each one of them has a very special place in my heart.
This time I have more material to document this experience, videos, photos, but most special, a lot of memories that will never go.
Time passes but Madonna is still with me, she is there in the best moments and even in the most difficult ones. I know I do not have to justify my love for her after all these years.
The queen came and went.. The Sticky & Sweet tour is now a memory just as the previous times.
Now besides the memories I have some material stuff, such as official and unofficial items that are a part of my never stopping collection.
Madonna sings in the Sticky & Sweet Tour “You must love me”… as if she does not know how much I do!!”
