Madonna in Mexico review and pictures by Fabricio
Hey guys!
Just wanted to share my M experience with all the tribers!
First of all, it was my first time ever seeing Madonna, so, on November 29 of 2008, The Queen herself popped my “M live” cherry, and damn! she wasn’t gentle! she made me explode! It was completely mind-blowing…
Ok, so I have to make some points now: The venue is amazing, enormous and it was (obviously) packed; the platino section was very big, can’t believe they charged that much the same to ppl in the front row and to ppl in the last sections, but anyway I got a great great great seat, I was so excited I was in plat 2 row 10 right next to the wing on the right side at the end of the catwalk…I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the giant M’s al shinny and pink, it was like I thought I would never see them, and there they were guarding the stage before my teenager eyes (LOL).
Suddenly I turn around and there was Guy O. telling the security guards to let us come closer so I dragged myself over there and sticked to the barricade! haaa haa; of course I didn’t ask Guy anything ‘cuz he must be so tired of fans asking the same question every single time, so I just peaced him and he replied….duh.
I was a little disappointed, not by M of course, but because almost all the platino section was full of pseudo-stars (“actresses”, “actors”, “singers”, etc.) and ppl too pose-y and bluff-y, they think they’re too cool for school, so it was like they were taking such a real and great artist/entertainer like M for granted, they would never get excited, so the few fans that got to be in platino were the only ones really jumping, singing every word, and just having fun all over the place… I should know! But overall the crowd was amazing! I mean, it’s the Queen after 15 years!!! (I was 3 back then so I don’t share that hole “15 years waiting” thing! Haha)
I think that all of us know how the show goes, so now I’m just gonna write my personal and general highlights.
Of course I could’nt believe I was finally seeing the Welcome to the Candy Shop intro; when the C-A-N-D-Y started I thought I was gonna die, I was like in the limbo…I don’t know, it was weird!
So CS ended and BGO began with a “Hola Mexico!” with a roar by response, and me jumping like there was no tomorrow.
I have to say, I don’t know why, but I thought that I was never going to hear Vogue live, it was like one of those things you see soooo far away, so when it happen it was something so special… I can’t explain.
Into the Groove one of my favorites, she seemed so happy and energetic, I loved it; and when she asked the ppl to sing while she jumped rope, the guy that was at the mic was soo bad (not a real fan I think), so before Heartbeat started she said “It wasn’t great, but it was Ok”. I loved the ska ispired version of Borderline, it worked wonders in me! And of course I freaked the hell out during She’s Not Me.
I’ve noticed that not a lot of ppl talks about the Here Comes the Rain Again interlude, it was awesome, it sets some kind of weird mood that fits perfectly with one of my favorite parts of the show, that is: Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You… speechless.
She almost falls during Spanish Lesson!
Then, one of the most exciting moments came, when she was finishing Miles Away, while she was making her way back to the main stage she stopped right in front of me and looked at me!!! Shtt…! But I think it was because me and the guys next to me looked like complete lunatics, that she gave us this “WTF is wrong with you?”, nodded and walked to the main stage! It was weird but irreplaceable.
Of course La Isla Bonita was a crowd pleaser; during You Must Love Me she asked the crowd to let her finish. 4 Minutes and Ray Of Light (I know this isn’t the order of the setlist but I think it was a similar level of energy) was pure positive energy, unity, jumping, and fun fun fun! Like A Prayer came to put us all down on our knees, metaphorically, cuz everyone was going cuh-razy! It was off the hook, energy above the standards, it all exploded!
The request section came, she was doing hand puppets on the screens, and there I was holding my sign up up up in the air as high as I could, it said: Dress You Up, but she ignored it! Nooo! So she decided to ask someone in front row who couldn´t understand her so she dissed him, he proceeded with a guy in the same side, he requested Sorry, and she was happy to sing it! So she agreed, we followed her but apparently the crowd wasn’t happy with the choice, so she said “Next time you pick a song everybody likes ok?”
I hate Hung Up rock version-ed hahaha but in the heat of the moment I wasn’t so bothered.
Give It 2 Me, being such a big hit over here, got everybody going wild, it was such a giant Rave… duh! I couldn’t stop screaming, and when she came with the mic right in front of us to sing-a-long I was in heaven! It was perfect!!! And that was it, Game Over Mexico City! I’m the happiest persona in the galaxy!!! lol
Wow! I thought I wasn’t gonna write such a long thing…jeez… sorry!
Hope you all guys left in South America (oh! Mexico is not South America) enjoy this experience as much as I did!
