Pure saccharine perfection
Toronto based international DJ, DJ InterCityKitty attended the Toronto October 18th Sticky & Sweet show at the Air Canada Centre and shares her review with Madonnatribe:
I knew I was excited. Excited enough to plan my outfit days in advance. But I had no idea that I would hit the roof when I saw Madonna poised in her thrown when she took the stage just after 9pm at the ACC. It was Madonna’s first night in Toronto but if I didn’t know better, given her energy and enthusiasm, I would have thought it was the first night of her tour. I don’t know a single artist who can show up night after night and be eternally amazing. But Madonna somehow can.
Opening with ‘Candy Shop‘ was pure saccharine perfection.
I had an idea of what as coming, but had no idea how fresh her songs would sound!
Vogue was classic, but totally new.
Into the Groove was like going back in time to 1984 (but without the bad hair and leg warmers). And then there was Borderline. Give Madonna a guitar and the talented mistress of the stage will transform a song that encompassed all that was good and bad about the 80’s and bundle it together in a neat little nostalgic package that would please the ears of the most discriminating music critic of today.
She’s Not Me, Miles Away and Heartbeat were three of my favourite numbers she did that night. She has an incredibly personal connection with her songs that seem to transcend when you see and hear them live.
Another high point of the evening was watching Madonna emerge from her black cloak, balanced on a piano, surrounded my digital rain while singing Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You. That song in itself was an experience not to be missed.
Time that night night both managed to stay still and fly by. Her wardrobe was divine. Her songs were intoxicating. And Madonna herself was spellbinding.
Before any of us knew it, Madonna was saying her goodbyes and it was GAME OVER. I expected a lot from Madonna and got more than I could have ever possibly imagined.
