The Luckiest Girl In The World
Madonna has gone on New York radio to promote her new single and upcoming album, saying that her career has been “amazing” and that she “feels like the luckiest girl in the world“.
With her new single, a collaboration with Justin Timberlake called ‘4 Minutes’, monopolizing airwaves all over the world, Madonna discusses how she built her career “the hard way“.
“I had to teach myself the drums, I had to get into a band,” she recollects. “I had to set-up my own drum kit and play [bleep] little gigs and little crap clubs for years before anybody would even pay any attention to me.”
“I think it’s good because doing all that, I think, really is what’s given me I think staying power… Being different, I think that’s what gives you staying power, not being like everybody else.”
Having been recently honored with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for being in the industry for 25 years, the 49-year-old reveals that she can no longer perform some of her old classics anymore.
“I’m not sure I can sing ‘Holiday’ or ‘Like a Virgin’ ever again. I just can’t. Unless somebody paid me like $30 million or something. [Like] Some Russian guy wants me to come and sing ‘Holiday’ at the wedding that he’s going to have to a 17-year-old. You know it!”
Discussing her career, Madonna admits, “It does kind of boggle my mind… If somebody would have said to me ‘Okay look, here’s the map of your life, and this is what’s going to happen to you in the next 25 years,’ I would have told them, ‘that’s funny.’ It’s amazing, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”
