I Am Because We Are – the book – officially launched
From raisingmalawi.org:
“I Am Because We Are“, a stunning collection of photographs by Kristen Ashburn, will be officially released this week by powerHouse Books.
The exclusive launch event for this beautiful print companion to the documentary film of the same name coincides with an online auction of one-of-a-kind items to benefit Raising Malawi on April 2nd.
All author proceeds from “I Am Because We Are” will directly benefit Raising Malawi.
Written and produced by Raising Malawi co-founder Madonna and directed by Nathan Rissman, “I Am Because We Are” examines the dire circumstances faced by Malawi’s one million orphans and explores innovative methods for lifting the developing world from a vicious cycle of disease and despair. Kristen Ashburn’s companion volume includes the portraits and stories of seven unforgettable Malawian children featured in the film.
The debut of “I Am Because We Are” at powerHouse Arena will open an exhibition of Ms. Ashburn’s work featuring the powerful lightbox installations seen at last year’s Raising Malawi / Gucci fundraiser held at the United Nations.
At the same time, an online auction will give RM supporters worldwide a chance to contribute to the forthcoming Raising Malawi Academy For Girls by bidding on one-of-a-kind items including a tour of Malawi with Raising Malawi’s Executive Director, a private screening of “I Am Because We Are” with the film’s director, and VIP tickets to Madonna’s ‘Sticky And Sweet’ show in Belgium.
