Live from Vicente Calderon
Triber neilc is in the Spanish capital today for the Madonna concert and has offered to text in the updates for tonight’s show. Tonybecks is kindly collecting Neil’s messages and posting them on our Forum.
Here are the updates so far:
• Neil says it’s very warm, but also quite windy so let’s hope they have that stage strapped down good and proper.
• Neil arrived at the stadium half an hour ago to be greeted by queueing chaos and lots of VERY excited fans who have all gone a bit crazy for the start of the soundcheck happening inside the stadium as they queue outside.
• Madonna is currently soundchecking Candy Shop as we type.
• The doors opened at 7pm eventually letting the folks in. Neil grabbed front row against the barrier in front of Monte but it was so hot he decided to relinquish that prized spot and grabbed some beers. He’s now in a great spot at the back of the VERY small gold circle next to the friends and family seats where he is apparently now sunbathing.
• The Gold Circle is full of really really enthusiastic Spaniards so he reckons it’s gonna be a good one.
He says that they are giving GC’ers pink livenation wristbands when they leave the GC and also sadly scribbling all over your ticket (they did this in Milan and Udine – such wanton ticket destruction breaks the heart!)
• 8.30pm – Oakenfold’s on and 20,000 Spanish ears strain for the opening notes of a certain Dub Version… ….but sadly no, it’s the same old set of Oaky classics.
• Jésus Luz is dancing on stage with Oakenfold.
•
Guy Oseary is making his rounds in the post-Oakenfold peace as the sun sets over the beautiful city of Madrid…
•
10pm – Nearly dark, stadium packed apart from the upper tier which doesn’t seem to have been sold, and there are claps and whistles going round. Neil says it’s a great atmosphere.
• 10.05 – Lights down… here we go!
• “Hola Madrid!”
• Leonardo DiCaprio is in the audiende – he just sat together with Guy Oseary in the friends and family area at the border of the Golden Circle.
• Ray Of Light has the whole Gold Circle jumping like madmen and women.

Madonna has gone down into the crowd off the catwalk for “Give It 2 Me” again – this is becoming something of a regular issue now.
•
She was given a Brazilian flag and waved it around at the end of the song…
…and that ladies and gentlement was Madrid. Thank you and good night!
Thanks to neilc live from Madrid and to Tonybecks.
