Madonna appealing Malawi rejection of adoption bid
Madonna on Friday filed a notice to appeal a court rejection of her bid to adopt a second child from Malawi, her lawyer said.
“I have filed a notice of appeal,” Alan Chinula told AFP.
The Malawi High Court on Friday turned down Madonna’s request to adopt a three-year-old girl, who would have become a sibling to another toddler adopted from a Malawian orphanage.
The appeal notice was filed on Friday afternoon in the Lilongwe High Court after Madonna was briefed about the outcome of the adoption application, Chinula said.
Hearings for the appeal would start next week, he said.

Madonna’s lawyer says she will appeal a judge’s surprise ruling that she cannot adopt a second child from Malawi.
The judge had said that granting the adoption would have set a dangerous precedent by bending rules requiring that prospective parents live for at least some time in the southern African country.
Madonna’s lawyer, Alan Chinula, said later Friday that he has “filed notice for appeal in the Supreme Court of Appeal.” He says no date was immediately set.
