Radio1 dropping Madonna
BBC Radio 1 have removed “Celebration” from their Playlist today.
The Playlist is compiled every Wednesday and is where daytime DJs select songs to play during their shows from. It is made of four separate lists (A, B C and Upfront) and Madonna has a history of singles being added very quickly to the A List after their radio release.
This didn’t happen for “Celebration“, which moved up very slowly and never managed to get into the A list, and consequently suffered in its first week of sales when failed to become Madonna’s 14th #1 single. But we can’t say programmers were just as slow to pull the plug because today, on the second week of commercial release, “Celebration” is nowhere to be seen on any of the Radio1 lists.
Well, if dropping the awesome Jo Whiley is from her prime morning show after eight years was not a reason good enough for you to drop Radio1 yourself, now you have another one…
