Re-Invent Yourself
Five years ago today, on the night of May 24, 2004, Madonna embarked on what was set to become one of the most appreciated tour experience of her entire career, the Re-Invention Tour.
Starting in Los Angeles at the Forum in Inglewood, Re-Invention was the first Madonna tour after Drowned World, and the one that set a new standard in terms of concept, scenario, use of multimedia, set-list and arrangements. For the first time ever Madonna decided to hit the road with a mix of songs from her latest album release, American Life, mixed with a selection of oldies but goodies spanning over her entire career, making this an instant classic and, for many, simply one of her best concerts ever.
Re Invention reprised concepts introduced in the Drowned World Tour under the direction of Jamie King, bringing them to the next level. Video intro and interludes became a must, and the collaboration with Veneno, inc. – started with jems such as “Paradise” back in 2001 – brought many incredible visual experience to those who attended the show.
Just as some other fan favourite of all times, Re Invention is still missing a proper DVD release at the present time, leaving fans with the next best thing of a tour documentary, I’m Going To Tell You A Secret, mixing bahind the scenes footage with a selection of live numbers from the show.
Re Invention was also an unforgettable experience for MadonnaTribe and the Tribers. When the site was only one year old, the Tour marked a series of incredible exclusive previews posted on our site weeks in advance, together with an in-depth look at what was going on during the rehearsals, up to the concert opening night. That was the time for the fans to get full spotlight, and MadonnaTribe introduced the idea of having an entire website dedicated to the tour only, meant to wrap in one single place everything and anything about the show, and at the same time leaving the “classic” news page spoiler free for those who wanted to wait until it was their time to attend the show to know all about it.
Those pages are now archived in the MadonnaTribe Tour section and it will be a nice trip down memory lane to spend some time to visit them today to see “how we were” back in 2004.
