St. Petersburg to get Sticky & Sweet, RIA Novosti says
Madonna will bring her Sticky & Sweet Tour this Summer in the beautiful St. Petersburg, Russia’s second biggest city, according to a report by Russian Information Agency Novosti.
“The last details are being finalized with Madonna’s management in regards to the St. Petersburg concert date,” a press release by Planet Plus, PMI Corporation said on Thursday.
RIA Novosti mentions a source close to the concert organizers telling them that the concert in St. Petersburg is planned for Sunday, August 2 in the city’s central square, Dvortsovaya Ploshchad (Palace Square), which looks set to be one of the most amazing venues Madonna has ever played.
St. Petersburg appeared as an obvious choice to many as soon as details about the 2009 leg of the Sticky & Sweet Tour were announced a few weeks ago. Russia was officially announced as one of the countries to be visited by the tour, but no date nor venue was revealed – although the itinerary includes a rather long series of concerts in the Nordic countries between the end of July and the second week of August, and St. Petersburg fits perfectly in the free slot between Oslo in Norway (July 29 and 30) and Tallin in Estonia (August 4) – leaving even space for a possible additional show on Saturday.
