Touched for the very first time
While we are in MTV MUSIC AWARD mood let’s take a walk down memory lane. Today, 25 years ago, Madonna did that Like A Virgin performance that marked the 80’s and her career.
MadonnaTribe had the chance to speak to Maripol who has the original idea for the performance.
“The idea of that performance came from an kind of a vision I had. We used the exact dress she is wearing on the album cover”, Maripol told us.
She adds: “We were right there. It was incredible because nobody expected it to be so raunchy. Cindy Lauper was there and was going to be star of the night and then Madonna came out. During the performance the camera shooting live, went right under her skirt and I remember Freddy De Mann saying ‘Never again will I let her being shot live’.
But that ‘did it’. I remember all the photographers running to the press conference right after she went off”.
The performance was also recreated in 2003 adding the infamous “Britney kiss” and Madonna celebrates it in her Sticky & Sweet tour in She’s Not Me, with one of the dancers dressed exactly like her.
Madonna’s daughter Lola also recreates the look in the still to be released second video version of the new single “Celebration“.
It’s great remembering when we were touched by Madonna “for the very first time”, isn’t it?
