Madonna fan essay now released as a book
Bruno Fernandes and Chiado Editora have just released in Portugal a book called MultiMadonna that analyzes 46 Madonna video clips in order to understand how the different images and characters have played an essential part on Madonna‘s success in almost 30 years, turning her into a pop icon archetype. These images essentially work with contradictory aspects to broadcast ambiguous faces of the singer and to never reveal the real person, keeping the interest of the media and of the audience, in such a way that allows Madonna to reinvent herself according to the logic of the capitalist production and to maintain her status as a celebrity par excellence.
The book is the result of Bruno Fernandes thesis for the Master in Communication Science at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. It is also the first Portuguese academic essay related to the Madonna Studies, a specific field of Cultural Studies developed in the 1990s due to Madonnas huge influence on media.
MultiMadonna is only on sale in Portugal, however if you are interested you can email Bruno Fernandes at multimadonna@hotmail.com.
