Watch where you walk, the return of Sidewalk Talk!
“I went to New York, I had a dream”, that’s what Madonna says in the spoken intro of her Virgin Tour videotape. The story of how she arrived to New York’s Time Square, the middle of everything, with only 35 bucks in her pocket is now legend, but the account of the hard times that followed were written by Madonna herself in the lyrics of the song “Sidewalk Talk” given to producer Jellybean Benitez to publish on his 1984 album called WOTUPSKI!?!
As Madonna often did with her early lyrics she used to draw inspiration from the situations she was living and from what she wrote for Sidewalk Talk apparently the times of the “Downtown” weren’t exciting all the time.”When you’re living on the street life can be full of misery,
find a place to call your own, make your heart into a home“, Madonna sings on the bridge of this song in which she co-sing with artist Catherine Buchanan.
“Sidewalk Talk” did very well on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart reaching the number one spot.
The great news today is that Sidewalk Talk is about to debut on cd from Gold Legion, a label based in US that reissues out of print releases from the 70’s and 80’s, who is about to release a limited edition of the Jellybean album WOTUPSKI!?! that will be remastered from the original master tapes and with an 8 page booklet with extensive liner notes.
This is a great chance for both longtime and new Madonna fans to get this track on an official release (Album Version – 6:06) along with two classic remixes of the songs (Funhouse Mix – 6:10 and Dance Mix – 6:04) fully licensed from EMI Music. Other bonus tracks are remixes of another great song on the album, called The Mexican.
