Swide goes behind the Barbie magic with Magia 2000
Swide, Dolce & Gabbana’s luxury online magazine meets the boys behind Magia 2000, the talented designers who keep reinventing one-of-a-kind dolls modeled on the one and only Barbie, paying homage to timeless icons of fashion, style and music – including of course the Queen of Pop herself.
Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi are MadonnaTribe longtime friends – click HERE to check out our very own interview – and with this brand new chat with Swide you’ll be able to see what they’ve been after in the most recent times, and of course learn more about how Madonna has inspired their whole venture.
“Creating some replica dolls of Madonna is probably the hardest thing to do” – Magia 2000 tell Swide. “Needless to say that Madonna has changed a lot over the years, she is a real master in reinventing herself.”
“Celebrities have their personal style so we focus on keeping the general silhouette and on conveying the glamour. Sometimes we need to redefine completely the hair to match the celebrity’s hairstyle. It can take months to finish a doll as it can prove to be difficult to find specific material in mini. We source fabrics and materials while travelling. These celebrities dolls are not the ones commissioned by Mattel, they are our own and illustrate our vision.”
While checking the latest about Magia 2000 on Swide let’s also have a look about three stunning creations from the Italian designers duo – these ones are not classic OAAK Barbies as they’re much bigger in the size and the doll herself did not receive a customized repaint – the focus this time is all on the replica outfits from some of the most iconic Madonna moments that Mario and Gianni have created for collectors around the world.
