A bold, hussy woman in good odor
Halo! Did you have a visit here that was agreeable?!
In 1996, Hungarian newspaper Bikk conducted an interview with Madonna while she was promoting Evita in Budapest. Madonna’s words were translated into Hungarian, and the interview was again translated back into English by USA Today, resulting in a thoroughly amusing not-so-English translation.
Later on, Doonesbury cartoonist Garry Trudeau drafted a spoof of that interview, as featured in Time magazine.
It’s fake of course, but it’s been floated around the internet as the real thing and was also reprised by French & Saunders until an impossibly amazing twist of fate made the charming Graham Norton decided to revisit this interview in front of Madonna herself, calling upon his guests (and W.E. co-stars) James D’Arcy and Andrea Riseborough to do their own dramatic reading.
As one might expect, it is everything and more – especially watching Madonna cringe and grimace and the ridiculousness of it all. (Her reaction to her book being titled Slut is the best part, obviously.)
So, let’s cut to the hunt! I am a tip-top starlet, that is the job I am paid to do.
