An inflatable roof for Madonna
News is in from fellow fansite Madonna Underground that Belgian stagin’ company StageCo has been enrolled to build four stages with identical dimension and features for the show, sized 70 x 40 meters and 26 meters high for the MDNA tour.
Working on specs and safety – an issue that is more and more taken in consideration these days after a series of accidents and casualties involved various stage productions all around the world – Dutch company Reeffors put aside an original concept of a “sail as a roof” and came up with an inflatable roof as the chosen option.
Talking to local media outlet Twentsche Courant Tubantia, Reefhors director Herman Ten Barge explains: “A sail as a roof was found to be too risky. Therefore, the structure was designed with an inflatable roof.”
More than a kilometer of hoses will be used to create the structure, Ten Barge – who as a former dee-jay used to spin a lot of Madonna tracks back in the ’80s – explains.
“I did not dream that I ever would do business with her. Whatever happens, I will fulfill Madonna’s order” he adds.
Check out a detailed report and interview with Herman on yesterday’s edition of the Twentsche Tubantia Courant.
