Madonna cries for her mom
From The New York Post:
Madonna may be a demanding director, but she revealed a softer side at the Ziegfeld on Tuesday night. She cried while introducing W.E., the movie she directed about the love affair between King Edward VII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson.
I’m sorry if I cry. I’m just so exhausted from Super Bowl rehearsals, Madonna, who will perform during the halftime show, told the well-heeled crowd through her tears. I’m not usually a very sentimental person. Don’t hold it against me.
Citing the influence of her late mother Madonna Louise, the singer said, This movie is about the journey of a woman’s soul. I want to thank my mother – she paused to cry – for giving me my life.
Madonna, who said her daughter Lourdes advised her against totally inappropriate clothing that would cause people not to take her seriously as a director, called her style on-set as extremely hands-on, detail oriented. Prepared as much as possible. When we asked why a cast member called her demanding, she shot back, Really? I bet they didn’t say that.
After the premiere, Madge hit up the Top of the Standard for the Cinema Society bash, which turned into a late-night dance-off that had Madge on the floor with her dancers and boyfriend Brahim Zaibat until 2 a.m.
Among those toasting her at the Forevermark bash were Ewan McGregor, Julia Stiles, Lou Reed, Jerry Seinfeld, Martha Stewart, Helena Christensen, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Ivanka Trump, Patti Smith and Eve.
