MDNA at the Key Arena – report by Christopher
MadonnaTribe contributor Christopher reports from the MDNA Tour in Seattle where he was fortunate enough to be in the front inside the Golden Triangle on the second show at the Key Arena.
“One of the amazing parts of the night was when Martin Solveig opened the show with David (Madonna’s son) while Rocco watched from the side of the stage! David was having so much fun and even danced for the crowd! Martin shared that this was David’s first appearance on the tour and that we were a very special crowd!”
“The concert went great! Madonna said her throat was too sore to sing Holiday alone so she had the audience sing it with her. We were also treated to Like A Virgin and the entire version of Love Spent.”
“Madonna did make statement at someone who was smoking weed in the audience twice. The first time she mentioned that she doesn’t care what we do but that while she was on stage to not smoke. She actually pointed out the man who was smoking the first time and told him to knock it off. The second time she smelt it she asked him to stop yet again. After that, I am not sure if the man was escorted out but the smell never returned.”
“I was lucky enough to have Madonna bend down with the mic right in front of me during Like A Prayer! She also acknowledged me during “Celebration”, “I’m A Sinner”, and “Masterpiece” by making eye contact with me and smiling when I was dancing and singing my heart out and you could tell she loved it! I was actually surprised that quite a few people in the Golden Triangle last night were either drunk or not into the show at all. One girl was even cussing out Madonna for supporting Obama and booing her during Like A Virgin. I finally turned around and told her to get the fuck out and she did, thankfully.”
“Overall, it was an amazing show and Madonna continues to prove she is the Queen!”
Christopher also spotted an article on the local news story regarding the October 2nd show – incredibly, it seems that one of the stories that the reporters love to pick up about this year’s tour is still how late Madonna appears on stage – no matter if her support act starts in time, and in fact the piece on KING 5 News reads: “No one expects a concert to start right at the time printed on the ticket, but the concert Tuesday night had a posted time of 8 p.m. Madonna didn’t go stage until after 10 PM.”
Christopher too some quality time to email an articulated comment to the author – click the Full Article link below to read it now, and if you were at the show, think about following his steps!
The story: Madonna doesn’t take stage until 2 hours after concert starts.
Christopher‘s response:
Dear Ms. Hahn,
I just finished watching your piece on the Madonna concert in Seattle and I am quite upset at the lack of facts presented and the disrespect shown towards the performers.
To begin, the concert was supposed to start at 8:00 pm. Concerts do rarely start on time, however the opening act was only 30 minutes late. Referring to the opening act as “just a dj” was extremely rude. The DJ that opened for Madonna was Martin Solveig who not only was a producer for Madonna’s MDNA album but is also a world famous class act. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Solveig I feel that you should have checked your facts before demoting their talent to “just a dj”.
Martin Solveig played for well over an hour and a half. He wasn’t just spinning tunes but was talking to the audience and sang his hit song “Hello” which is on heavy rotation on Seattle’s Kiss FM and also was featured in a very popular Trident commercial. After Martin was finished, the stage crew immediately hopped on stage clearing Martin’s setup and preparing the stage for Madonna. This only took about 30 mins. Which at that time Madonna did come on stage. There was not an extreme amount of waiting involved. It was no different than Britney Spears’ stop in Tacoma during The Femme Fatale tour which didn’t get over until 1 am.
Also, people in the crowd were not just “getting up and leaving” as your report states. The promotion team was actually going out throughout the entire show and pulling about 100 people down to sit in the “Golden Triangle”, which is a mosh pit of sorts which left the appearance of empty seats but that was just not the case. Again, checking your facts would have been more professional.
Considering that Madonna also put on an over 2 hour long concert after Martin Solveig was finished, does make the time late. However, anyone who goes to major world tours today knows that you get out late. It is just the way it is. If people did not plan ahead to come into work late, that is not a story of Madonna’s failure but rather the ignorance and immaturity of those who went.
Regarding the violence, you really should have watched the concert with an open mind (that is, if you even attended the show). If a man had done the same thing, there would be no news story. But since it was a woman, it was shocking. Hip hop artists are performing in Seattle all the time without so much as a whimper from King 5 or yourself when they degrade women and homosexuals all the while glorifying murder and rape. Madonna has released statements regarding the “violence” and the metaphor it presents. Did you even take the time to check on that? The lack of research on your part for this “story” is shocking.
Finally, I feel that you should really be ashamed of yourself for such a story. This was not a review or even news, it was a cheap shot based on people’s gossip that you didn’t even fact check. As a member of the press, you know better. This was not a news story as much as a horrible twist of rumor.
The story would have been a lot more enjoyable if you had simply presented the facts. I am ashamed to be from Seattle today due to your horrible representation of fact.
