The Diet Coke ”Madonna” bottle… not really
French designer John Paul Gaultier – who has just confirmed that he will be once again contributing to the design of the upcoming Madonna Tour costumes – was recently appointed the creative director of Diet Coke, and had as his first order of business to create the next line of Diet Coke’s fashionable bottles.
While the media is referring to these cool designs as “the Madonna Diet Coke bottles”, we believe that those are more an homage to JPG’s own tradition of bustier designs – and of course also to his own, male, white and blue stripes scheme.
The cream-colored “Madonna” bottle, has no official tie to Madonna herself and is painted with a fishnet corset and a cone bra, but the reference to the Queen of Pop costumes – if any – is way more subtle than that in another iconic Gaultier design, the 2005 “Rock Star” edition of his Classique perfume bottle that was actually screaming “M” all around.
