The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier comes to Brooklyn
Madonna’s conical bra will come to New York next year as the The Brooklyn Museum has been appointed as one of the next stops of The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, the first international exhibition dedicated to the groundbreaking French couturier organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts that has been already seen by half a million people since its launch last year.
The Brooklyn Museum will be the only East Coast venue for the exhibition, spanning the designer’s 37-year career. The Brooklyn presentation, coordinated by curator Lisa Small, will be updated to include new material not shown in the previous venues, including pieces from Gaultier’s recent runway shows. It will run from October 25, 2013 to February 23, 2014.
Currently at the Fundación Mapfre in Madrid (on display until January 6, 2013), The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier launched in Montreal in October 2011 and visited the Dallas Museum of Art and the De Young Museum in San Francisco.
The next stops will be in Europe, visiting the Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from February 9 to May 12, 2013, and the Arkitekturmuseet in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 17 to Sept. 22, 2013 before its arrival at the Brooklyn Museum, in October 2013.
