Brainwashed on a Sunny Sunday in London

I personally find the cover artwork for Madonna‘s Celebration album really amazing because it really is hugely iconic! That’s the Madonna we all learned to love, even though my mind has some minor problems with the fact it’s made from two different Madonna images shot by two different photographers!

As you all know the artwork was created in 2009 by the great Thierry Guetta better known as Mr Brainwash, who often pays homage to Madonna as one of the modern icons in many of his pop artworks. In August 2012 his free entry “Mr Brainwash Show” at the Old Sorting Office in London proved to be very popular and Madonna fans could see, among other things, the real artworks and variations he created for his Madonna covers (Celebration album, Celebration single, Celebration Maxi single, Revolver). Rewinding to July 2012, I was in London to see Madonna’s MDNA Tour at Hyde Park and on a sunny Sunday morning I was passing by The Old Sorting Office building in Holborn. It looked like someone was painting the exterior of the building putting the finishing touches to the exhibit starting a month later and to my surprise I realized that “someone” was actually Mr Brainwash himself!!! I then asked an assistant if Mr Brainwash would be able and willing to sign my Celebration CD for me and he said that he would certainly do it after finishing his work!

Now, my problem was, my Celebration CD was in another city! So quicker than a Ray Of Light I ran straight to the nearest HMV store (the now defunct Picadilly Circus shop) and got the LAST Celebration cd they had in stock for 5 pounds and a Celebration tote bag for 15 pounds.

Back to Holborn, Mr Brainwash had just finished his paintings a decorations and was happy to sign my CD and tote bag. His signature is as arty and original as his paintings. Here’s a look at the signature on the cd cover and inner poster and his signature on the tote bag.

And to complete this article I will show you another signed Celebration cd I have, this one by Madonna herself, which makes a great set with the one signed by Mr Brainwash and I’m considering putting both of them together in one frame.
