I Am The Empress!
Way before writing her own series of children’s books Madonna was involved in 1998 in a project for children by
Starbright Foundation.
An all star celebrity cast of Award winning actors and actresses retells in a hilarious way Hans Christian
Andersen‘s beloved “The Emperor’s New Clothes” fairy tale.
All of the royalties and contributors’ fees from this book have been donated to Starbright,
the innovative charitable foundation committed to improving the lives of seriously ill children.
“The Emperor’s New Clothes” was first published in 1837 and tells the story of a fashion obsessed Emperor who
is duped by two con artists into parading down the street naked, but convinced he’s wearing invisible and expensive new clothes.
Each of the 23 celebrities that took part to the project wrote their own piece and acted out their parts in the
audio cd that was part of the book.
Among the actors we find Fran Drescher as the Heralding Horn, Steven Spielberg as the Honest Boy, Jeff Goldblum as the Imperial Wizard, Robin Williams
as the Court Jester, and Calvin Klein as the Emperor’s Underwear! Madonna could only play one part: The Empress!
Here’s a look at this nice book, a nice addition to any Madonna collection, and at the lovely portrait of Madonna
as The Empress, in a look that reminds her MTV awards appearance from 1990.
Also, the die hard fans from the early internet years will remember that her reading from this cd also inspired a great fanmade bootleg remix of Vogue titled “The Versailles Dub” that could be find online around 1999.
See you next week
