Kabbalists do it subtler
Upon the 2005 release of Confessions On A Dance Floor, much discussion was had by fans over Madonna‘s need to so blatantly display her Kabbalah red string on the front sleeve. At the end of the day, it’s her album, they are her beliefs so… in my view it’s up to her what she does.
However, how many of you noticed that she had actually been wearing it on an album sleeve prior to this? “Where?” I hear you ask. Was it on ‘American Life‘ – her most overly Kabbalah-heavy album? There’s lots of red on that sleeve, but no – nowhere in that entire album sleeve does the string appear. ‘Remixed & Revisited‘? Despite her wrists being clearly visible there’s no red string.
No, in fact, you have to have keen eyes to spot it’s earlier appearance…
Did you spot it? Look a little closer…
Strangely, in the other photos inside the booklet which feature much clearer pictures of her wrists and hands, the string is not visible. It’s interesting to notice that in later pressings of the album, the “contrast” on the whole album design seems to have been increased so that the colours are more vivid – it’s here that the red string has clearer prominence.
