Madonna Brainwashed
The Madonna illustration used on the cover of her 2009 ultimate greatest hit record Celebration has become sort of an iconic image. It’s now being used and licensed by Live Nation Merchandise on a large selection of items that span from T-shirts and totebags to magnet, mugs and coasters!
The image has been put together by the celebrated French native pop artist Thierry Guetta, better known as Mr. Brainwash, using two different classic Madonna images.
He took Madonna’s face from the classic shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino that premiered on “Bazaar” magazine in 1990 to promote Blond Ambition Tour and blended it with the short platinum blond hair taken from the 1987 portrait by Alberto Tolot. Here’s a look at both images and at the final result.
Brainwash’s original Madonna artwork included the 1990 face blended with classic “Marilyn Monroe hair in Warhol style” but apparently, as legend now says, to use the image commercially and avoid copyright problems with the estates of the other two dead celebrities the image was modified with the most “Monroesque hairstyle” Madonna ever sported!
