M.I.A. offered ”Sexodus” track to Madonna first
Rapper M.I.A. decided to keep her new song Sexodus for herself after Madonna declined the opportunity to use it for her latest album MDNA.
The Paper Planes hitmaker contributed two tracks to Madonna’s 2012 release, Give Me All Your Luvin’ and B-Day Song, but she reveals there could have been a third.
She tells Britain’s The Guardian newspaper, “I actually played that song to Madonna when I wrote it and said, ‘Oh you can have this.’ She gave it back to me.”
The tune’s sentiment about having it all prompted a conversation between the two stars, but outspoken M.I.A. didn’t agree with Madonna’s take on the lyrics.
She recalls, “So I was like, what d’you (sic) do? And she said, ‘You spend it!’ And I said, ‘No, I don’t think that’s the right answer.'”
However, the pop superstar’s shallow response hasn’t changed M.I.A.’s opinion of her: “No, because Madonna is true to Madonna. She always said she was a material girl.”
“Sexodus“, which features soul star The Weeknd, is now set to appear on M.I.A.’s own upcoming album “Matangi”.
