The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier comes to London
“I am super excited that the show is coming to London… I always want to go to London, because London, for me, is a special place. In England I’ve got so many souvenirs and I’ve had so many experiences and I must say that the English were the first ones to come to my shows and appreciate my fashion. If there is one place other than Paris that I should like to live in, it is London. I’ve got so many connections with London and feel at home there, even sometimes more than Paris.”
Fashion designer, the fantastic Jean Paul Gaultier comments on the announcement that his “From Sidewalk to the Catwalk” exhibition will visit the Barbican Art Gallery in Spring 2014.
The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From Sidewalk to the Catwalk opens in the UK in April 2014 as part of its international tour which started at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2011 and then visited Dallas, San Francisco, Madrid and Rotterdam. It will then travel to the Arkitekturmuseet in Stockholm, Sweden, June to September and head to the Brooklyn Museum in New York City, in October 2013
“It’s an honour for me because it’s a wonderful gallery and a wonderful place with extraordinary architecture and I think that showing my work there will be beautiful,” Gaultier said about the show, which has been constantly updated since the start and will be adapted for the Barbican.
As the MadonnaTribe readers remember, several iconic Madonna outfits designed by Gaultier are part of the exhibition thanks to the determination of curator Thierry- Maxime Loriot who convinced the Queen of Pop to lend him her precious bustiers that she never lended to anyone else before and were never exposed.
