The very First Album
Madonna‘s first album was going to be quite different under the original plan. The full album was originally produced by Reggie Lucas
The original tracklisting ran:
Side One
Lucky Star (5.10)
Borderline (5.18 )
I’m Burning Up (5.25)
I Know It (3.44)
Side Two
Think Of Me (4.54)
Physical Attraction (6.03)
Ain’t No Big Deal (4.15)
Everybody (5.56)
…as this super rare test pressing cassette direct from Reggie Lucas’s Kalisa production company (using Sigma Studio in New York for the recordings) shows.
However, once delivered to Warner it was decided that some extra help and some other songs were needed. In comes Jellybean with Holiday, out goes Ain’t No Big Deal (even though it was considered as her debut single originally!), the title of Burning Up was shortened, the now-famous keyboard arpeggios were added to Lucky Star giving it it’s distinctive sound and a star was born….
Reggie Lucas, however, disappeared from Madonna’s career thereafter.
